Wandering the halls of Santa Fe, i came across many extrordinary pieces of art. The following five are pieces that caught my eye and that I founf to be very interesting.
The first piece i am going to talk about is called "Road with Cypress and Star, Vincet Van Gough 1890". This piece is of a large cypress tree, two stars, a couple people walking along the road, and what seems to be a horse carrige riding up behind them. This painting was very well done and really captures the Van Gough style with the short brush strokes and the beautiful stary sky painted behind the cypress.
The second piece i chose was called "Calatea of Spheres" and i found this painting ot be very intriguing. When you first look at it, you initially see a bunch of grey and yellow spheres all of the painting. When you continue to analyse it, you see much more. You notice that hidden beyond the spheres, there is a womens face. She is looking down as if to avoide the spheres or as if she may be ashamed of them. There are a lot of emotions behind this and it seems to have a secret story behind it. Questions are formed after studying it. Questions like, who is she? and what do is going on, why does she seem upset?
Next is the "Piano Man, Ivey Hayes 1974". This painting has a much more up beat and lively pull to it. When you first look at it, you are pulled in by its many bright colors. The artist uses bold yellows and greens, along with the utilazation of pattern pring on the people's garnments. Aside from the colors another thing pops about this painting. The people seem to be having a fun time. There are three colored men playing instruments, all dressed in exotic suits and patterned ties. In the back you see an elegantly dressed women who seems to be enjoying what she is hearing. The over all painting gives you an excited feeling.
"Dancers in Pink, Eagar Degas" and it is a portrait of a group of girls, dressed in pink dresses who seem to be dancing wiht on another. It is mainly focused on the dancing girls in the painting with a very blurred backdrop. Behind them, all you can really make out is the one girl standing in a blue dress by herself. The girls in pink stand on a wooden foor, probably a stage and can faintly see the lights behind them so it's safe to assume they are preforming.
The last piece i am writing about is the "Hand the Reflecting Sphere, M.C. Escher". In this work, you see a very well done take on perspective. This painting was by far my favorite because we are looking at an object that is showing us a whole other side of the painting. When looking at the paiting, you see a hand holding a large spherical reflective ball. But in the reflection, you see much more. You see the man who is holding the ball and the room surrounding him. The artist's way of showing something through a reflection of something else is really neat and I really enjoyed it.
